Grammy® Nominee Percussionist/Drummer Tupac Mantilla is regarded as one of the most versatile and creative artists of his generation. His work as a Performer, Educator and Speaker has been highly recognized worldwide and includes appearances in major festivals, institutions and venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Harvard University, Stanford University, NYU, to name a few, as well as tours and collaborations with artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Zakir Hussain, Esperanza Spalding and Lisa Fischer.
He gratuated with honors as a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory and has been awarded the Louis Armstong Jazz Award and the 1st. Prize at the Bogota's Philarmonic Orchestra's Classical Soloist Competition, among other recognitions.
Mr. Mantilla is the founder, CEO and Artistic Director of the Global Percussion Network PERCUACTION®, with which he leads several educational and social projects and initiatives around the world, through the PERCUACTION FOUNDATION and the GLOBAL RHYTHM INSTITUTE, benefiting nowadays more than 250.000 children worldwide and hundreds of teachers and institutions through his rhythm-oriented curriculum, methodologies and books.
In 2019, Mr. Mantilla launched his latest training R.I.T.M.O. A learning methodology through rhythm and the use of the body as a musical and evolutionary tool, and was invited as the opening speaker at the 2019 TEDx Bogota event, to speak about his concept of rhythmic flow, brain-wave and string theories, while combining it with his Solo Percussion show audience interaction.
Nowadays he devotes most of his time to coach and train people in his several rhythm-oriented methods while keeping an active world-tour agenda of collaborations as a high-in-demand percssionist.
